Billing, Timekeeping & Trust Accounting with AI

Timekeeping, invoicing and trust accounting tools whose AI captures time, writes narratives, reviews bills and keeps the trust ledger reconciled.

This is a small category: four tools, three of them timekeeping. Most of the AI for billing lives inside the practice-management suites listed under Practice Management & Workflow with AI, where Clio Manage's Manage AI automates bill generation, Smokeball's AutoTime and LEAP's AutoTime capture time automatically, MyCase suggests time entries, and CosmoLex keeps trust accounting in the same product and has announced AI-driven bank reconciliation. The standalone tools here split into two kinds. Three capture time and write the narrative: Lawgbook records the workday from email, calendar and meetings and drafts entries matched to the right matter, at $29.99/seat/mo on Essentials; Ajax reads on-screen work, groups it by matter and writes client-ready narratives in the attorney's voice, priced by quote; and LegalTime AI is a desktop app that captures locally, drafts the entry and releases only approved entries to the practice system, also by quote. The fourth, LeanLaw, is legal billing and trust accounting built on QuickBooks Online, from $55/user/mo on Core, with ClerkAI answering billing and revenue questions in plain language.

Across the four, the AI watches what the attorney is doing (screen, email, calendar, phone and meetings), works out which matter it belongs to, drafts the time entry with a narrative written to the firm's style or outside-counsel guidelines, and hands it to the attorney for review before it goes to the billing system; LeanLaw's ClerkAI is read-only and answers questions about time entries, WIP, invoices and collections instead. Two of the four post a price, $29.99/seat/mo at Lawgbook and $55/user/mo at LeanLaw, and Ajax and LegalTime AI are quoted; every figure was read on the vendor's own site on October 31, 2026. One of the four, Ajax, posts that firm data is not used to train its AI models and names SOC 2 Type II. All four list Clio as an integration, Ajax, LeanLaw and LegalTime AI list MyCase, and Ajax and LegalTime AI list PracticePanther, alongside Filevine, Actionstep, TimeSolv and other billing systems; LeanLaw requires a QuickBooks Online subscription, which is priced separately.
